Aban bin Taghlib bin Rabah al-Bakri al-Jurari was a prominent linguist, grammarian, Qari (Quran reciter), and hadith narrator. He was a Shia Muslim who lived in Kufa and was a companion of Imam Zayn al-Abidin, Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, and Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq. He died in 141 AH (758 CE). He authored several works including 'Gharib al-Quran' (on rare Quranic vocabulary), 'al-Qira'at' (on Quranic recitations), 'Ma'ani al-Quran', and 'Siffin'. Both Sunni and Shia scholars have praised his knowledge and reliability. Imam al-Baqir told him: 'Sit in the mosque of Medina and give fatwas, for I love to see people like you among my followers.'
