Abu al-Rum (Mansoor bin Umayr bin Hashim) was a companion of Prophet Muhammad from the Banu Abd al-Dar clan of the Quraysh tribe. He was the half-brother of Mus'ab ibn Umayr, the first ambassador of Islam. He was an early Muslim who converted in Mecca and migrated to Abyssinia in the second migration. He participated in the Battle of Uhud. His mother was Rumia (Roman), which gave him his name 'Abu al-Rum' (Father of the Roman). He was martyred at the Battle of Yarmouk in 15 AH (636 CE) in Syria.
