Abu Ayyub al-Ansari

Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (Khalid bin Zayd bin Kulayb) was a prominent companion of Prophet Muhammad from the Banu Najjar clan of the Khazraj tribe in Medina. He is best known as the host of the Prophet after his migration to Medina, as the Prophet stayed in his house for seven months until the construction of the mosque. He participated in all the battles with the Prophet and was a staunch supporter of Imam Ali. He died of illness during the First Arab Siege of Constantinople and was buried at the foot of the city walls. His tomb in Istanbul is a revered site, and the Eyüp Sultan Mosque was built in his honor.
