Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (RA) was one of the ten companions promised Paradise and a famous general who conquered Iraq and Persia. He accepted Islam at the early age of 17. He was a famous warrior who took a leading part in the battles of Badr and Uhud and all battles that followed. The Prophet prayed for him, saying: 'O Allah, make his arrow hit its mark.' He was the commander of the Muslim army at the historic Battle of Qadisiyya in 637 CE, which resulted in the defeat of the Persian Empire. He served as the governor of Iraq and founded the city of Kufa. He retired during the caliphate of Ali and died in 670 CE at the age of 70.
