Sa'id ibn Zayd (RA) was one of the ten companions promised Paradise. He was the son of Zayd ibn Amr, a man who rejected idol worship before Islam. He accepted Islam at the age of 19. He married Fatimah, the sister of Umar ibn al-Khattab, and both accepted Islam, concealing their new faith from the pagans, especially from Umar who was not yet Muslim. He participated in all of the Prophet's battles except for Badr, because he and Talhah ibn Ubaydullah were sent to scout the Quraish caravan. The Prophet still counted them among the veterans of Badr. He was known as the man who always charged first in battle. He served as governor of Damascus during Umar's caliphate. He died in 671 CE at the age of 70 and was buried in Al-Baqi cemetery.
