عُبَيْدَة

Ubaidah

Ubaidah is an Arabic name meaning 'Servant of God' [citation:1]. The name is most famously associated with Abu 'Ubayda al-Jarrah (full name: 'Amir ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Jarrah), one of the ten companions of Prophet Muhammad who were promised Paradise. He was a close companion of the Prophet and played a major role in the early Muslim conquests, particularly the conquest of Syria. He was appointed as the commander of the Islamic army by Caliph Umar and died in an epidemic plague in al-Sham in 639 CE [citation:2].
