عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ اسلام کے دوسرے خلیفہ اور سب سے بااثر مسلم حکمرانوں میں سے تھے۔ وہ 581 عیسوی میں مکہ میں پیدا ہوئے۔ ابتداء میں اسلام کے سخت مخالف تھے، لیکن اپنی بہن کے گھر قرآنی آیات سن کر مشرف بہ اسلام ہوئے۔ ان کی عدالت، انتظامی صلاحیتوں اور سادگی کے لیے جانا جاتا تھا۔ انہوں نے اسلامی کیلنڈر متعارف کرایا اور سلطنت کو صوبوں میں تقسیم کیا۔ 644 عیسوی میں شہید ہوئے۔

عمر بن الخطاب هو ثاني الخلفاء الراشدين وأحد أقوى الحكام المسلمين تأثيراً. ولد عام 581 م في مكة لعائلة نبيلة من قريش. أسلم بعد تأثر بآيات قرآنية في بيت أخته. عُرف بعدله وعبقريته الإدارية وتواضعه. أسس التقويم الهجري ونظم الدولة إلى ولايات. استشهد عام 644 م.
