Zaynab bint Jahsh (RA) was a wife of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the sister of Abdullah ibn Jahsh, a famous poet and companion. She belonged to the noble Banu Asad tribe. She was first married to Zayd ibn Harithah, the Prophet's adopted son. The marriage was unsuccessful and ended in divorce. Allah then commanded the Prophet to marry her through Quranic revelation. This marriage abolished the pre-Islamic custom of treating adopted sons as biological sons. She was known for her piety, charity, and devotion to worship. She built a small mosque in the corner of her house for prayer and meditation. She died in 641 CE at the age of 53 during the caliphate of Umar.
