Abu al-Hamra was the freed slave (mawla) of al-Harith bin Rafa'ah, a companion of Prophet Muhammad. He was also the freed slave of Harith bin Afraa, a Badri companion. He participated in both the Battle of Badr and the Battle of Uhud. During the Battle of Badr, he, along with Mu'az, Auf, and Mu'awwiz, had a camel upon which they would take turns to ride. As a mawla, he was a client or freedman who became associated with the household of his master. He is recognized as a companion of the Prophet.
